The NEW FINANCE ALLIANCE retreat has been organized by the Region of Abruzzo and its Regional Energy Agency (ARAEN), with the support of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), the Assembly of European Regions (AER), the European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment (FEDARENE) and the Conference of European Regional Legislative Assemblies (CALRE)

The NEW FINANCE Alliance retreat has been organized by the Region of Abruzzo and its Regional Energy Agency (ARAEN), with the support of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), the Assembly of European Regions (AER), the European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment (FEDARENE) and the Conference of European Regional Legislative Assemblies (CALRE), in the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities 2017. It had the format of a citizens’ dialogue and networking event on energy and climate. The event took place in Pescara, Italy, on October 20, 2017.

The first session of the day foresaw a presentation of EU and Italian initiatives and policies on energy and climate change, including funding opportunities for the sector. A focus on the importance of integrating public and private experiences and funding has been made. The second session, focused on regional experiences and best practices in the field. The NEW FINANCE project was presented and discussed.

In the afternoon, all participants (ESCOs, universities, financial sector, experts such as architects and engineers, mayors, representatives of municipalities, industries, citizens in general) were gathered in thematic working groups and had the opportunity to debate on the topics of the previous session.  In particular, a working group on energy and economics and finance, with specific focus on public-private partnership for energy efficiency, financing opportunities for EE projects, the role of ESCOs and EPC opportunities has been organized and coordinated by Prof. Gianmichele Panarelli from the Department of Engineering and geology of the University G. d’Annunzio, Chieti-Pescara, who is an expert in the field.

During the event, trainings that will be organized within the NEW FINANCE projects have been highlighted.
