Italian public buildings warm up the efficiency engine

The first outcomes of last years' policies are coming to light

ROME. Italian public authorities warm up the engine for the refurbishment of their buildings. New financial resources are now made available to local administrations. The National Fund for Energy Efficiency, which has been re-launched at the end of 2018, is now fully operative and it has awarded the first ten project proposals.

The fund provides more than 7 Million EUR to municipalities that co-finance the refurbishment with other 7 Million EUR for a total investment of more than 14 Million EUR. In particular two projects in the municipalities of Cazzago San Martino (BS) and Langhirano (PR) plan to transform or rebuild several buildings according to the standard of nZEB (nearly Zero Energy Building).

The National Fund for Energy Efficiency finances both public and private entities to improve the energy efficiency of services, industrial processes and buildings. Public authorities have particularly advantageous financial conditions, with loans covering up to 80% of the project amounts, subsidized interest rate and long tenor (up to 15 years).
